Fixing the “dofollow” feature
Comments: (28) Published September 13th, 2008 in Blog promotion tips, BloggingWagg.it blog is finally “dofollow” again as I had trouble with “do-follow” plugin that was making the blog down. What does it mean? It means that every time you leave a comment here you get a quality backlink! I am currently growing my business and as I said before, once you have at least one blog, it makes perfect sense to create more. I’ve been testing “the waters” this week trying to expand my network and I spent a couple of days answering on Yahoo Answers. Well, one positive thing that I’ve noticed is that one of my answers was indexed by Google within 2 hours! That’s right. The other questions, that I answered, didn’t get such “bonus”. But I probably know why. Let me know if you want me to tell you my thoughts and I’ll explain. Maybe some of you had same experience:)
What have been done for my new blog during last 3 days:
1. the blog was submitted to DMOZ.org. I know, I know. The chances are very tiny, but after all I got wagg.it listed there, so hopefully everything will be ok. I have scheduled though the next submission in 5 months::))
2. the blog was submitted to the additional PR4 directories, I simply took advantage of networking on forums
3. I was experimenting with AdSense ads on the right side and replaced it by Chitika Premium. Will get AdSense back as it so far gives more profit. I guess I simply need more time to figure out which Chitika’s options are working better in my case.
4. Optibizz is now “do-follow” too!
I am stuck with our ongoing project that will add networking features to Wagg.it. The most difficult part is finding a creative AND yet reliable person.

Out of curiosity, what benefit does answering questions on Yahoo answers give you? Backlinks?
Hi - Ryan from Chitika here - just wanted you to know that our ads perform MUCH better if placed directly above or below your article titles on your permalink pages.
The thing is - our Chitika | Premium ads will only display to your search engine (transient) traffic, so your regular readers do not get bothered by any additional advertising.
I’m happy to help with some optimization tips if you’d like - feel free to hit me up at ryan [at] chitika [dot] com
Thank you for letting other respectful bloggers out there know that you are a do follow blog.
You said this—

I would very much like to hear your thoughts on this a bit more. Maybe you could post a new post on the topic? Please!

Hello, guys. Thank you for stopping buy and leaving your comments!
Daniel, the main benefit for answering on YAnswers is that in my case I am targeting my potential clients and get traffic to my inner pages by leaving deep links while answering. As I said, some of the answers got indexed within 2 hours, and my theory is that these were asked by real people::)). They have been reading answers, clicking on my links, thus these answers gained “popularity”. You know what I mean?
Piper, here is my opinion. I had a feeling, that some of the questions on Yahoo Answers were placed by and answered by people that work together as a team:). I mean it happens very often and people get banned for doing such things on DP, for example:), but I think this is one of the reasons why answers on these questions don’t get indexed fast. If you post a question and 20 minutes later your co-worker responds on it, you have to wait until somebody get really interested in same stuff and start reading and clicking on the links that you included. Overall, it’s a good place to get additional free traffic to your blog, but you don’t feel connection with the community like on forums, for example. That’s my IMHO:)
Ryan, thank you for a good tip! I’ll definitely try it out and let you know how things are going for us. Really appreciate your help, thanx!
I have had some good results from Yahoo Answers in the past. Not sure what it did for me with the evil Google but i know I got great targeted traffic.
Hey, Jake. You are right, Yahoo Answers gives quality traffic. My only hope that they keep going as Google Answers didn’t last that much::))
Great to hear tht>!
Thanks for sharing, Stumbled upon your post in linked in, and visited to know what you’ve been getting up to.

Hi this is a great post! Thanks for sharing- I am thinking of making my blog a do-folllow too but was wondering if there are negative effects in doing that… would love to hear what you think about that.
Thank you, Monica! Jade, there is one negative effect of having a “do-follow” blog, but thanks God we have Akismet plugin:::)))). Basically, the “do-follow” attribute makes your blog attractive for spammers as they always look for free ways to promote stuff that most sites block…. But as I said, if you install Akismet, there is nothing to worry about.
Great post, I have nevert thought of another way to improve comment from visitors and at thesame time valuable to their sites. I will be implementing this on my personal blog.

I really appreciate your comments. I am new to the blogging world and am very interested in discovering all the little secrets to success. Your comments a very interesteing and have me scrambling to learn more!
Great idea.
I just wanted to warn everybody that Yahoo Answers closed my account because according to them I wasn’t following the guidelines. My answers were not spammy at all, they were real answers to people’s questions, not a copy-paste of my Web sites link. 13% of my answers were chosen as best answers. Somebody saw that a few of my answers had a link to the same Web site and they reported it to Yahoo team. They have removed all of my answers except for the ones that were chosen as best answers and disabled my account.
Wow, this is bad news. I have 9 best answers in total on Yahoo Answers, but I don’t spend much time there. You should fight back. Contact them and explain that someone was probably playing unfair games by giving you thumbs down and thus your account got banned. Any way, don’t let yourself to get down! Heads up! Thank you for visiting my blog!
Good tactic and good post, Helen.
Keep up the great work!
Nice site — good luck.
Having “dofollow” activated sure makes your website/blog more interactive, as more people would want to comment.
It works out great for me as well, and as long as you don’t have dofollow mentioned on a webpage you won’t get that much spam.
Btw, try using http://pingler.com to get your webpages indexed. Then you won’t need to post on yahoo answers to get indexed =) And you can also ping pages on yahoo answers to get them inedex quicker.
